i clean mine with a can of coke ...

No matter how long in between uses as soon as i spark it up
i pour coke over the hot plate - try it you'll be amazed how it eats the
old grease off the plate

heat the plate - let the coke bubble like crazy and scrape off - you will be amazed how clean it becomes - then spray with cooking oil and cook away
